This webinar will focus on the how practitioners can use sensitive and non-shaming practice to meet the needs of children affected by family and domestic violence.

Relevance to General Practice

Practitioners are increasingly challenged to engage mothers and children in ways which are both child-aware and parent sensitive. This webinar will examine the skills, practices and understandings which are important in engaging mothers in ways that do not reinforce shame or stigma, but which maintain a focus on the social and emotional wellbeing of children.

Learning outcomes

  1. Describe the impacts of family and domestic violence on mothers and their children
  2. Identify ways of engaging mothers that limit shame and stigma
  3. Describe the micro-skills of child-focused practice when working with mothers and children affected by family and domestic violence
