The RACGP has signed a milestone contract with the Australian Government Department of Health to deliver GP training in Australia from 1st February 2023.
The transition to a profession-led model will create a new nationally managed, supported, and locally delivered general practice training program.
Our model will build on the successes of the current RTO-delivered approach. It will enhance the experience for registrars and GP supervisors and contribute to general practice care for communities Australia-wide.
We aim to deliver a sustainable pipeline of competent and confident GPs and rural generalists.
Our model will continue using local teams - medical educators, supervisors, and administrators - to deliver the program and support AGPT participants.
Approximately 900 new roles will be created under the RACGP model with recruitment currently underway, firstly from interested RTO staff and later from the open market.
We thank the many GPs and stakeholders who have helped us to date. We look forward to continuing to work together to deliver world-class GP training.
