Grant funding update

The Department of Health released their College-Led General Practice Training Grant Opportunity Guidelines  on 3 December 2021.

Key staff, including medical educators, transition team members, rural representatives and finance experts, were led by the Senior Program Director and our CEO to develop our grant application to the Department. Several of our Board members and two independent experts reviewed our application before we submitted it on 21 January 2022.

Our approach is based on a fit-for-future model that builds on current RTO successes, addresses the current shortcomings and meets the grant KPIs. The sector requires stability, particularly in the context of changing community needs and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department is now assessing the application against their eligibility criteria and KPIs. They will consider our proposed model and request for budget allocation. We anticipate that this will include further dialogue and clarification with the Department.

The assessment period, selection and negotiations are expected to take approximately 10 weeks, with the earliest start of grant activity being 1 April 2022. At this time, we will be able to confirm our operational model and work towards implementation with certainty.

We understand that some stakeholders feel frustrated by the lack of detail about the transition and the new operating model. We are looking forward to transparency and greater engagement as we move forward.
