RACGP and RDAA Medical Student Bursary

Applications now open until 8 April 2026.

What’s involved?

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Rural Doctors Association of Australia (RDAA) are offering 10 student bursaries valued at up to $1,000 to help make your rural placement more affordable and accessible.

These bursaries can support costs such as travel, accommodation, meals, and education expenses related to your placement (claimable on receipt).

Why consider a rural placement?

  • Work alongside experienced rural GPs and rural generalists in community-focused settings
  • Make a meaningful impact in areas where your skills are needed most
  • Build lasting relationships in local communities
  • Experience the unique rewards of working in rural medicine

Who can apply?

You're eligible if you are:

  • a domestic or international medical student enrolled at an Australian medical school, and
  • undertaking a rural general practice placement between January and December 2026.

To apply, tell us...

  • the details of your placement
  • how your placement will benefit the rural community
  • what you hope to gain from the experience
  • how the placement may shape your future career
  • the costs involved and what you need the bursary to help cover.
