In memoriam

Dr Harry Nespolon

Make a contribution

Following the recent death of Dr Harry Nespolon, the RACGP has established an In Memoriam page to honour the legacy of its late President.

Dr Nespolon was a tireless advocate for GPs and the general practice profession, as well as Australian patients. The funds donated will be used to continue his work and honour his vision.

Dr Nespolon displayed extraordinary leadership during his time as RACGP President, particularly during the 2019-20 summer bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic, always working to ensure Australia’s GPs could deliver patients the best possible care.

Some of Dr Nespolon’s achievements included helping to create simpler, stronger and seamless continuing professional development and ending the Medicare freeze. He also spoke out in support of some of Australia’s most marginalised patient groups.

Unafraid to voice his beliefs on potentially controversial topics such as mandatory reporting and voluntary assisted dying, Dr Nespolon was especially vocal on the issue of scope of practice.

If he believed something would benefit general practice and, by extension, the health and wellbeing of all Australians, Dr Nespolon would act.

‘We should always endeavour to do better, to break the mould, to include voices that haven’t been heard, to innovate and to learn from the experience of other jurisdictions,’ he said.

The RACGP acknowledges the condolences and thoughts of our members and the general public. Visit the memorial wall, established by the RACGP.
