Frequently asked questions

To find out whether the library holds a particular book or publication, or to find a title on a subject of interest, contact the RACGP Library team by filling out the library’s online form or call 1800472247 to connect with our library experts.

*Staff-delivered services are available to financial members who are registered medical practitioners in Australia or IMG Members residing in Australia.

For sending requests via email  you must first complete this registration for sending electronic requests form - it need only be completed once.

Operating on a ‘closed access’ basis, the library sends resources to members* Australia-wide by courier, free of charge. Resources will only be sent to a practice or business ‘street’ address as a signature is required. *Members who are registered medical practitioners in Australia or IMG Members residing in Australia.

Pre-paid return bags are included with loans. The courier will collect returns at your request if you call them. Loans must be returned in the return bag provided and protected using original packing materials or similar. Any additional costs incurred due to loans being returned by a different service or on an unauthorised courier consignment note (connote), ie one not supplied by the Library, will be passed on in full to the borrower.

For articles and inter library loans obtained from external suppliers, a limit of $200 (approximately 15 items, depending on the source) per user per year applies. A maximum of 4 books or 6 DVDs may be borrowed at any one time.

Generally loans for books, CD-Roms and DVDs are for two weeks. Extensions to loan periods may be possible – to request an extension call the Library on (03) 8699 0519.

Replacement costs for damaged or lost items, plus a $25.00 administration fee, will be passed on to the borrower.

Yes, members who are current CHECK subscribers can borrow back issues.

Access to staff-mediated services such as loans, article supply and information provision is available free of charge to members who are registered medical practitioners in Australia or IMG Members residing in Australia. Library services for externally funded projects outside the RACGP, joint projects with the RACGP and postgraduate degrees are restricted – please contact the Library for more information. Any additional costs incurred due to loans being returned by a different service or on an unauthorised courier consignment note (connote), ie one not supplied by the Library, will be passed on in full to the borrower.
