Using the library


Library services and resources

Eligible users can send us requests for resources, information, journal articles and literature searches via the website, email, fax or phone or can directly access our electronic resources via the website.


An author, title or subject search of the online catalogue will show whether a specific item is held by the library or what resources on a particular subject are available and in what format.


*Staff-delivered services are available to financial members who are registered medical practitioners in Australia or IMG Members residing in Australia.

For sending requests via email  you must first complete this registration for sending electronic requests (PDF 235KB) form - it need only be completed once.

 


Operating on a ‘closed access’ basis, the library sends resources to members* Australia-wide by courier, free of charge. Resources will only be sent to a practice or business ‘street’ address as a signature is required. *Members who are registered medical practitioners in Australia or IMG Members residing in Australia.


Pre-paid return bags are included with loans. The courier will collect on request using the number indicated on the return bag. Loans must be returned in the return bag provided and protected using original packing materials or similar. Any additional costs incurred due to loans being returned by a different service or on an unauthorised courier consignment note (connote), ie one not supplied by the Library, will be passed on in full to the borrower.


For articles and inter library loans obtained from external suppliers, a limit of $200 (approximately 15 items, depending on the source) per user per year applies. A maximum of 4 books or 6 DVDs may be borrowed at any one time.


Generally loans for books, CD-Roms and DVDs are for two weeks. Extensions to loan periods may be possible – to request an extension call the Library on (03) 8699 0519.


Replacement costs for damaged or lost items, plus a $25.00 administration fee, will be passed on to the borrower.


Yes, members who are current CHECK subscribers can borrow back issues.


The Library has an eTOC service to help you keep up with the journal literature in subject areas of interest. Find full details, register for the monthly alert and access the eTOCs.


Your suggestions for new resources are welcomed which can be submitted via the form at the bottom of the page.


Access to staff-mediated services such as loans, article supply and information provision is available free of charge to members who are registered medical practitioners in Australia or IMG Members residing in Australia. Library services for externally funded projects outside the RACGP, joint projects with the RACGP and postgraduate degrees are restricted – please contact the Library for more information. Any additional costs incurred due to loans being returned by a different service or on an unauthorised courier consignment note (connote), ie one not supplied by the Library, will be passed on in full to the borrower.


Yes, some services are available to non-members including journal article supply and literature searches. The prices for these services are as follows: Document Delivery Articles from our journal collection: $16.50 Articles ordered from other sources: $33.00 Fast-tracked items : price on application. Literature Searches** Per search (where searching time is up to 1 hour): $110.00 (**For extensive searches please contact the Library for pricing details). Other services may be available, please contact the library for further information. All charges GST inclusive. Prices subject to change.
