Intrauterine devices and systems – Resources for general practice
Practical, evidence-based resources to support GPs with the safe and confident insertion of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and intrauterine systems (IUS) in general practice.
The resources include a GP checklist, patient pre-insertion and post-insertion checklists with optional patient confirmation forms. They are designed to support clear communication, shared decision-making, and consistent clinical processes before and after insertion. Also includes guidance on clinic room use of Penthrox® inhaler ('the green whistle').
These resources have been developed by RACGP Specific Interests Sexual and Reproductive Health Medicine, in collaboration with the RACGP Expert Committee – Quality Care (REC–QC), to support quality care across general practice.
