Clinical Excellence Queensland consulted with clinicians and consumers in the development of this primary care resource, with the aim to reduce rates of preventable Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) at diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in children under 16. These guidelines will help improve parents’ knowledge of the symptoms of hyperglycaemia and DKA and improve psychosocial adjustment to a chronic disease for families. It should help lower paediatric Intensive Care unit admissions and decrease morbidity and complications of Type 1 Diabetes, associated with DKA.
