In an emergency

For acute patient presentations that you can’t safely manage in your practice setting, provide immediate care while arranging for safe transport of the patient to your nearest emergency department.

Once the patient is stable, an inpatient admission to an AOD service can then occur if required. Examples of AOD emergencies include withdrawal seizures, substance-induced psychosis, overdose, or suicidal intent.
