RACGP response to Ahpra’s review of the Recency of Practice and Continuing Professional Development registration standards

The RACGP has provided a submission to Ahpra's review of the Recency of Practice (ROP) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) registration standards for all Boards except the Medical Board of Australia.

The College supports the proposed recency thresholds of 150 hours of practice over 12 months or 450 hours over three years, recognising that they balance public safety with workforce flexibility. However, the RACGP has raised concerns about proposals to remove Board oversight of practitioners making substantial changes to their scope of practice, arguing that stronger regulatory safeguards are needed as scopes of practice expand across the health workforce. The RACGP also supports additional professional development requirements for practitioners with scheduled medicines endorsement but considers that the proposed increase does not go far enough to demonstrate ongoing competence in diagnosing, prescribing, and managing patient care.
