The RACGP thanks the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for the opportunity to respond to the public consultation on Potential reforms to the regulation of Nicotine Vaping Products, November 2022. Considering the recent legislative change to the supply of nicotine e-liquids to prescription only, along with the emerging public health challenges particularly for young Australians, the RACGP recognises the urgent need to review the existing regulation of Nicotine Vaping Products (NVPs).  The RACGP provides cautious support to progress toward an Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) registered NVP and the removal of the Personal Importation Scheme exemption for NVPs. Some of the proposed reforms may have unintended consequences for prescribing for smoking cessation, which are detailed in our response.
