The RACGP has written to the Medical Board of Australia to raise concerns about the referral requirement in the Advance Copy of the Guidelines for registered medical practitioners who perform cosmetic surgery and procedures, effective from 1 July 2023. The RACGP does not support a blanket mandate for all patients seeking cosmetic surgery to have a referral from their usual GP and seeks clarification on its reasons for mandating this requirement.
