Date: 15 February 2023

The RACGP submission responds to the published Terms of Reference for the Inquiry. The submission highlights the key role of GPs for sport players who have received a concussion and repeated head trauma. The RACGP recommends strong approaches are taken by sporting bodies to prevent concussion and repeated head trauma for everyone playing contact sports. This includes adapting sports rules where required. The response also advocates for longer GP appointments to assess concussion, and standardised, easy-to-access guidelines for GPs and other health professionals.
