The RACGP is pleased to respond to the Healthcare Identifiers Framework Project Consultation. The consultation led by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care (the Department) aims to create a more connected and integrated health system with a national approach to Healthcare Identifiers (HIs).
Our submission called on the government develop clear policies and processes at a national level to communicate the requirements of healthcare professionals and organisations from now into the future by:
- prioritising the establishment Standards for the broad adoption of HIs
- ensuring digital health systems across healthcare are interoperable and require the use of HIs
- linking the use of HIs to accreditation and quality improvement activities.
The RACGP also expressed significant concerns regarding additional penalties which may be applied under the Act along with concerns that HIs must not be used to drive compliance.
