Last updated 8 February 2022

Summary

Date: 4 February 2022

The Health Legislation Amendment (Medicare Compliance and Other Measures) Bill 2021 is intended to strengthen the government’s compliance powers regarding corporate entities and to align the primary legislation governing health provider benefits.

The RACGP met with the Department of Health on 14 July 2021 to discuss the amendments and provided written feedback on 27 July 2021, however, did not have a chance to review the legislation prior to its introduction into Parliament on 21 October 2021.

The submission highlights the RACGP’s concerns with amendments to legislation that would expand the powers of the Professional Services Review (PSR) to enter into agreements with corporates.
