‘Voice to Parliament’ consultation

Last updated 9 April 2021

Summary

Date: 31 March 2021

The Australian Government established a co-design process to examine options for a ‘Voice to Parliament’, following the release of the Uluru Statement from the Heart in 2017 and the subsequent Joint Select Committee on Constitutional Recognition Relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in 2018.

In this submission, the RACGP reaffirms our support for implementation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, in full through constitutional enshrinement of a Voice to Parliament and the establishment of a Makarrata Commission to supervise agreement-making and truth telling.

You can view the RACGP’s earlier submission to the Joint Select Committee on Constitutional Recognition Relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples here.
