Summary

Date: 12 May 2021

The Federal Budget 2021–22 was released on 11 May 2021. The 2021–22 Budget is heavily focused on post-pandemic recovery, with an emphasis on job creation and funding for essential services.

The Budget included the following funding allocations:

  • $17.7 billion for aged care
  • $2.3 billion for mental health care and suicide prevention
  • $1.8 billion for primary healthcare

While this funding is welcomed by the RACGP, there remains a need for greater investment to support broader general practice patient services.

The RACGP will continue to advocate strongly on behalf of our members as part of the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook and as we approach a Federal election, and we are actively engaging the Federal Government to develop a model for meaningful investment in general practice.
