The Opioid Analgesic Stewardship in Acute Pain Clinical Care Standard will guide appropriate prescribing of opioid analgesics for the management of acute pain, in patients presenting to hospital emergency departments and post-surgical patients. The RACGP submission recommends the inclusion of an opioid analgesic dose for when naloxone is to be administered and highlights the importance of having appropriate drug charts and medication administration in place before discharge of a patient to Residential Aged Care Facilities.
