Open letter to the Department of Health - Telehealth compliance campaign

Last updated 27 July 2021

Summary

Date: 28 July 2021

The RACGP has written to the Secretary of the Department of Health, Professor Brendan Murphy, regarding compliance letters sent to hundreds of GPs who were caught out by rules concerning Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) claiming for telehealth consultations.

The letter notes that GPs have been asked to repay funds to the Department when they have provided services in good faith to long-term patients of their practice. This compliance activity has occurred at a time when GPs are participating in the largest vaccination program ever seen in Australia, and has had a significant impact on patient care.
