Summary

The Department of Health is seeking to work with the health sector in the development of any potential new or revised Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items relating to nicotine cessation. The development of MBS items for these services is intended to complement updates to clinical guidelines.

The RACGP's submission expresses concerns about single disease focussed MBS items and states that if new items are created, they should be managed under similar arrangements to items 721 and 732 for chronic disease management.
