The Federal Government’s Department of Home Affairs has developed a draft factsheet for healthcare professionals – Understanding radicalisation to violent extremism. The factsheet provides information on strategies and services that can assist GPs if they are concerned a patient (or someone close to them) may be radicalising to violent extremism. The Department sought comments and feedback from the RACGP on this factsheet and the other resources.
The RACGP provided several points, particularly that the primary role of GPs is to provide healthcare to individuals in the community, and the importance of patient confidentiality.
