Summary

Date: 26 September 2018

The Federal Government recently announced the decision to establish a Royal Commission into the aged care sector, which will primarily look at the quality of care provided in residential and home aged care to senior Australians. It will also include young Australians with disabilities living in residential aged care settings. The Department of Health is now seeking feedback and comments to the Terms of Reference of the Royal Commission.

The RACGP’s submission to the Terms of Reference focuses on three main categories:

  • Government oversight and management
  • Role of aged care facilities in a modern health system
  • Clinical governance in aged care facilities
