Submission to the Senate Red Tape Committee inquiry into health services

Last updated 30 May 2019

Summary

Date: 5 February 2018

The RACGP has made a submission to the Senate Red Tape Committee inquiry into Health Services. The submission identified areas where red tape could be reduced in general practice, which had previously been raised with former Health Minister (Hon Sussan Ley) in 2015. It also presented the following additional red tape issues:

  • excessive or restrictive requirements associated with service provision – including the need to review and revise practice policies each time a requirement is introduced and/or amended
  • lack of integration or use of electronic systems – resulting in GPs having to complete a number of complicated and time-consuming paper-based forms.
