The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) invited the RACGP to provide comments and feedback to their position statement Building radiology eReferral: safety, security and patient choice.
The RACGP response agrees with RANZCR’s principle of a patient-centred system that promotes choice of clinical provider and efficient exchange of information across the different levels of the health care sector via electronic referrals. The submission suggests the position statement emphasise the role of referring GPs in determining what constitutes appropriate imaging, and advocates for the following:
- involvement of the RACGP in all aspects of software development for e-referral technology, including clinical decision support
- a collaboration between the RACGP and RANZCR to provide educational opportunities for GPs related to radiology referrals.
