Summary
Date: 13 October 2017
The RACGP provided a submission to the Department of Health (the Department) on the First Principles Review of the Indemnity Insurance Fund (IIF).
The schemes under the IIF provide valuable safeguards for GPs as well as patients, providing surety and confidence within the general practice sector.
While the RACGP has acknowledged that a review of the schemes that comprise the IIF is necessary, the submission requests that the Commonwealth Government does not withdraw its involvement.
The RACGP considers that significant modification to or Commonwealth withdrawal from the IIF could lead to unaffordable insurance premiums for GPs and result in some GPs being unable to practise due to crippling costs.
