Submission to Productivity Commission

Last updated 3 June 2019

Summary

Date: 21 July 2016

On 29 April 2016, Hon. Scott Morrison MP, Treasurer, instructed the Productivity Commission to undertake an inquiry into Australia’s human services, including health, education and community services, with a focus on “innovative ways to improve outcomes through introducing the principles of competition and informed user choice.”

The initial Productivity Commission consultation paper is broad and theoretical in nature, with few specific proposals. The submission identifies a number of issues that could arise from the application of increased competition and contestability within the health sector.

The RACGP's submission focusses on the health sector and calls for ongoing consultation during the inquiry.
