Response to consultation draft of stroke guidelines

Summary

Date: 30 November 2016

The Stroke Foundation has been funded by the Federal Government to update the Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management 2017. The updated guidelines better reflect the latest evidence-based research and expertise in stroke management. The current draft guidelines incorporate GRADE evidence, which provides a clear hierarchy of investigation and treatment targets. This is an important area for general practice, as patients often present late to general practice following an ischaemic event.

The RACGP has provided feedback which describes the need for more action-oriented information to support the role of GPs in assessing new stroke cases, and greater patient-focussed guidance.
