Response to COSA consultation Model of survivorship care

Summary

Date: 2 November 2016

The RACGP support the development of new models of integrated cancer care that recognise the core aspects of good generalist care and that address the broader physical and psychological needs of cancer survivors.

Current models of care for cancer survivors do not effectively manage the post-treatment phase. General practice is well positioned to lead the management of long-term physical and emotional needs of cancer survivors and their families / carers.

The COSA Model of survivorship care can be strengthened with the explicit involvement of general practice, particularly in follow-up care, shared care, management of comorbidities and care coordination with other specialists, allied care professionals and community services.
