This response emphasises the RACGP’s commitment to support GPs in the delivery of appropriate care to older people and provides recommendations to optimise the quality use of medicines to older Australians.
Medicines use in older people is a complex balance between managing disease and avoiding medicines related problems. The RACGP has welcomed the focus the NHMRC Cognitive Decline Partnership Centre (CDPC) and NPS MedicineWise are placing on tackling the complex issue of overprescribing in our ageing population and participated in the National Stakeholders’ Meeting in August 2015.
