Last updated 7 June 2019

Summary

Date: 6 May 2015

RACGP draft national guidelines aim to provide consistent, unambiguous terms and processes for on-screen display of medicines information in both clinical and consumer facing systems.

The guidelines are designed to be used for on-screen display of medicines information in all electronic medical management stems where medicines information is used and recorded, including the PCEHR.

The guidelines provide design recommendations for presentation of medicine names during the prescribing, dispensing and administering processes, including presentation of:

  • medicine names
  • text
  • abbreviations and symbols
  • numbers and units of measure and general information display.

The national guidelines also recommend a design to avoid confusion and prevent misreading of these variables.
