The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has provided a submission to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care's consultation on the review of the Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Prevention Clinical Care Standard.
The RACGP has noted that the current 7-day VTE and bleeding risk reassessment timeframe should have a clear rationale based on evidence, and reassessment should be extended to non-hospital settings such as hospital in the home and residential aged care. The RACGP has called for general practitioner handover to occur at or before discharge, rather than within 48 hours, and for VTE prevention plans to provide clear timeframes for treatments.
