Consultation for the November 2026 Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) agenda

The RACGP response supports the resubmission by GlaxoSmithKline Australia Pty Ltd to request an expansion to the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for recombinant zoster vaccine, Shingrix to include non-indigenous adult patients aged 60 years and over, reducing from the current age criteria of 65 and over.  For people within the 60 -64 age bracket, out-of-pocket costs for Shingrix courses are significant and the incidence of shingles increases significantly in this age bracket. This recommendation aligns closely with that of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).
