The inquiry into the health impacts of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) in Australia was re‑referred to the House Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability on 28 August 2025. The inquiry, originally launched in August 2024, lapsed following the dissolution of the House of Representatives in March 2025, with an Issues Paper published at that time outlining preliminary findings and recommending its continuation in the next Parliament.
The RACGP made its original submission in October 2024 (
submission 84) and gave evidence at a public hearing during the previous Parliament. This supplementary submission (October 2025) builds on this earlier input, highlighting opportunities to strengthen responses to AOD‑related harms in general practice and across the broader health system.
