Do you want to be a strong voice for general practice?

We're looking for GPs to join our GP Advocate Network to help expand our advocacy reach, shape the future of general practice in Australia and deliver on the RACGP Advocacy Plan priorities.

Advocates will receive training and support to help build long-term relationships with elected representatives in their local community. These relationships play a pivotal role in shaping local, state and national health policy, ensuring GPs are supported to deliver patient-centred care that ensures better health and wellbeing for all Australians.

Our long-term aim is to have a network of fully trained, active and engaged GP Advocates advocating to all Federal and State MPs in both upper and lower houses. Join the RACGP GP Advocate Network and be a strong voice for general practice.

How will you contribute?

All Advocates will benefit from compulsory introductory advocacy training. Some advocates may also be offered media and social media training to further assist them in the role.

We ask our advocates to commit to:

  • At least two meetings per year with their locally elected representative. These meetings will broadly align with the release of the RACGP’s federal pre-budget submission (Jan – Feb) and the General Practice: Health of the Nation report (Oct). This will be augmented by targeted state and local government engagement.
  • Attending one to two community functions likely to be attended by their representative each year.
  • Writing one to two letters to their representative about core advocacy issues, supported by the RACGP Advocacy Team.

Advocates will also be asked to provide feedback and insights gleaned from these meetings to the RACGP Government Relations Team.

Advocates will be required to be aware of and comply with key RACGP policies, including the Conflict of interests and related party transactions policy, the Social media policy and the Spokesperson policy.

Please note this is a volunteer role.

Timing

Recruitment for the GP Advocate Network is ongoing, however with State elections for Victoria and South Australia scheduled for 2026, we are particularly keen to hear from interested GPs in these states.
