RACGP Standards for health services in Australian prisons (2nd edition)

 Closed: 21 July 2020

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has released its draft of the Standards for health services in Australian prisons (second edition) (Prison Standards) for consultation.

The Prison Standards have been developed to support health professionals and their employer organisations in their endeavours to provide high quality care to people in Australian prisons.

The Prison Standards have the same modular structure as the RACGP’s Standards for general practices (5th edition), with outcomes and patient-focussed Indicators. We note that this is the first draft and the preamble and glossary are not included. The three modules are:

  • Core
  • Quality Improvement (QI)
  • Prison health service (PHS)

To ensure the Prison Standards are meaningful for the profession and other stakeholders, we invite interested individuals and organisations to review the draft and offer feedback by Tuesday 21 July 2020.

We’re here to help, so feel free to email standards@racgp.org.au if you would like further information on the development of the Prison Standards.
