The Australian Government is developing new public sector data sharing and release legislation to create better use and sharing of public data across government and to enable the research sector to use public data to improve the development of solutions to public problems. The new legislation will empower government agencies to safely share public sector data with trusted users for specified purposes. Its aim is to streamline and modernise data sharing, overcoming complex legislative barriers and outdated secrecy provisions.
