Chairs report March 2022

The March RACGP Board meeting was special, because for the first time since COVID changed our lives forever, the Board was able to re-commence its rotating schedule of travelling meetings – kicking off in Brisbane.

The night prior to the meeting also saw the Board and Queensland Faculty Council host a member cocktail party at the Howard Smith Wharves. It was wonderful to reconnect with many people we had not seen in person for months – if not years – while also meeting some few faces as well. A special thanks must go to James Flynn and all the faculty staff for putting on a wonderful event and making us feel welcome.

At the Board meeting itself, robust discussions were held on several key topics, including the upcoming Federal Election and work that has already been done on key priorities contained in the RACGP’s Federal Election Campaign wishlist, which was launched earlier this year.

Profession Led Community-Based Training (PLT) discussions also continue, with the college working through grant negotiations and mitigating risks as they arise.

Meanwhile, the Board discussed the detailed options analysis for the Education Assessment Delivery Project Fellowship exams, Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), and Key Feature Problem (KFP) Test that the education team had presented.

We were also presented with the budget parameters for the 2022–2023 financial year (FY23). Executive Management has developed a three-year operating plan with strategic objectives that have been socialised with the Board and is due to be finalised in April.

Once complete, it will detail supporting plans, initiatives, key success metrics, accountable executives and delivery dates. The fiscal year budget also aligns key operational objectives to be delivered within the three-year operating model and the organisational transformation activities.
