GP of the Year Awards

The nomination period for the following awards has closed.

What are the GP of the Year Awards?

The GP of the Year awards have been created to salute the dedication of general practitioners across Australia and to recognise excellence within general practice. The awards provide a wonderful opportunity for you, your patients and your peers to celebrate general practice and the doctors who work in this field. The GP of the Year awards provides all GPs with the opportunity to be recognised in the community, help improve the profile of general practice and win prizes. All awards require nomination, and will be assessed by the RACGP Awards Committee of Council. This is your opportunity to nominate doctors you believe are ambassadors for the profession, and who provide a high level of excellence in patient care.

General Practitioner of the Year Award

The General Practitioner of the Year may be nominated by any two persons e.g. a member of the medical profession, a member of the general public, a member of a regional training provider etc. This award will be judged on the following criteria:

  • understanding and commitment to general practice
  • service to the public
  • involvement in training and continuing professional development.

The winner of the General Practitioner of the Year Award will receive a $5000 travel scholarship and be profiled in a College publication. To learn more about the RACGP General Practitioner of the Year Award, including eligibility criteria please refer to the Awards of Council Terms of Reference.

General Practice Supervisor of the Year Award

The General Practice Supervisor of the Year may be nominated by the medical profession, regional training providers, general practice divisions, Medicare Locals or Networks or surveyors from an accrediting body. This award will be judged on the following criteria:

  • understanding and commitment to general practice and training/mentoring
  • performance as a GP
  • role model as a trainer/mentor
  • involvement in delivery of registrar training

The winner of the General Practice Supervisor of the Year Award will receive a $5000 travel scholarship and be profiled in a College publication. General Practice Registrar of the Year Award

The General Practice Registrar of the Year may be nominated by a general practice trainer/mentor or other GPs. This award will be judged on the following criteria:

  • commitment to general practice and to learning
  • service to patients, practice and education
  • services to the community

General Practice of the Year Award

The General Practice of the Year Award is designed to recognise practices for their approach to patients’ health and wellbeing. The General Practice of the Year may be nominated by any two persons e.g. a member of the medical profession, a member of the general public, a member of a regional training provider etc.

A winner will be chosen from each State, and one national winner will be chosen from amongst the State finalists. The winner of the General Practice of the Year Award will receive a $5000 staff training grant and be profiled in a College publication.

How to nominate

To nominate a GP, Supervisor, Registrar or Practice, please download the applicable form below.

Important notes:

  • A GP, Supervisor or general practice who has won an award in these award categories in the past, cannot be considered for these award again until a period of 10 years has lapsed. See the History of RACGP Award winners for further information.
  • A nominator may not nominate more than one nominee in each award categories.
  • It is highly recommended that the nominators/sponsors do not discuss their nomination with the intended nominee.
