WA State Chair Report
At present we have 1400 WA members, 670 of whom are rurally based. The 2011-2012 WA Faculty Board held its inaugural meeting at College House on the 3rd November where we welcomed seven new members.

You couldn’t really call this year boring by any stretch of the imagination. There has been some really significant chunky issues in the primary care space which seems to have encouraged those in the space to join forces and work more collaboratively.

This is an annual RACGP-WA event growing in numbers and popularity. It aims to honor its senior members and to provide an occasion where they can keep up with old colleagues.

Another hectic few months, culminating in a fantastic GP 11 conference in Hobart. The Faculty continues to provide quality educational events and QI and CPD remains central to activities. We do rely on your feedback, so if you have ideas, we would love to hear from you. Do colleagues feel that there is enough coordination of vocational educational events in their particular geographic location? I believe there is a gap, and the Faculty is perfectly placed to advise and provide expertise to local groups. This issue will be a focus for the Faculty in 2012.

On the Friday before the 2012.2 Clinical Exam, College House is busy with last minute preparations for the big day. The staff exam team have been briefed and tonight, examiners from all corners of the state will meet for examiner training and upskilling, facilitated by our very capable Assessment Panel Chair, Dr Bill Diamond.

The 2011 Fellowship and Awards Ceremony for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners WA Faculty took place on Saturday 17 September at the University Club of WA.

Another action packed 2 months! It is sometimes very difficult to balance College responsibilities with one’s own practice! I am always grateful to my partners and colleagues for their cover and support. The train journey from Mandurah to College House in Perth has also been a bonus, - it gives me undisturbed time to reflect on recent events and plan for the future [usually the next meeting!].

GPs participate in many educational activities and not all are ‘pre-approved’ or ‘accredited’ with the QI & CPD program.
