Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training (25 Sep 2010 25 Sep 2010)

Description: A one day workshop set in an active learning module format. The workshop will provide participants with skills in: o recognising and assessing mental disorders o preparing a plan for mental health care grounded in evidence based practice o ongoing monitoring and review of progress, and o increasing understanding of cognitive behavior strategies, including psycho education and relaxation techniques.

GPE - Caring for Mental Health Patients (28 Sep 2010 28 Sep 2010)

Description: Speaker: Dr Cate Howell. Dr Howell is a general practitioner working in the mental health sector, both in private practice and in the discipline of general practice at the University of Adelaide. Dr Howell is currently involved in research, teaching and writing in the mental health area. About the presentation: - discussions on how to handle mental health patient’s concerns at the front desk and in the waiting room - types of conditions seen in general practice - issues that may arise and helping the general practitioner with patients in distress.

Mock Clinical Exam Workshop (06 Oct 2010 06 Oct 2010)

Description: The mock clinical exam workshop is a half-day workshop and provides candidates with the opportunity to participate in a mock version of the clinical examination. Description: Speaker: Sylvia Morris - sterilisation services training manager, Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). Sylvia has 30 years experience in health including microbiology, infection control and sterilisation and as a department head of a central sterilising department. Sylvia is currently the sterilisation services training manager at the QEH in Woodville. About the presentation: - standards Australia (AS4815). This course is presented within the guidelines of AGPAL accreditation - demonstration of correct cleaning tools for medical and surgical equipment - packaging medical and surgical equipment ready for sterilisation - loading and unloading tips for steam sterilisers - documentation required for safe practice - troubleshooting and question time.

GPE - Emergency for Practice Nurses (07 Dec 2010 07 Dec 2010)

Description: Speaker: Dr Hugh Grantham - Director, SA Ambulance Services. The general aim of this course is to: - refresh existing emergency skills - learn new skills such as defibrillation. Specific topics covered will be: - IV insertion - airway management including laryngeal mask - rhythm recognition and defibrillation - first line emergency drug therapy for adrenaline, naloxone, atropine, amiodarone and opiate analgesia.
