The Fellowship Preparation Program (FPP) assists all medical practitioners to prepare for the college examination, including international medical graduates and registrars. The three-day program consists of sessions that are highly interactive with small group activities and role playing. |

GPE - Sterilisation (21 Feb 2012 21 Feb 2012) |
| Description: |
Speaker: Sylvia Morris - Sterilisation Services Training Manager, Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). Sylvia has 30 years experience in health including microbiology, infection control and sterilisation and as a department head of a central sterilising department.
Correct sterilisation techniques are vital for patient safety and to ensure uncontaminated pathology results. This course is designed to inform participants on appropriate procedures for sterilising equipment along with the correct documentation process.
Course outline:
- Standards Australia (AS4815), this course is presented within the guidelines of AGPAL accreditation
- Demonstration of correct cleaning tools for medical and surgical equipment
- Packaging medical and surgical equipment ready for sterilisation
- Loading and unloading tips for steam sterilisers
- Documentation required for safe practice
- Troubleshooting and question time. |

GPE - Emergency Update for Practice Staff (06 Mar 2012 06 Mar 2012) |
| Description: |
Speaker: Dr Hugh Grantham - SA Ambulance Services.
All staff working in general practice should be aware of what to do in case of a medical emergency. Whilst the medical care may ultimately reside with the GP, there are various other responsibilities that need to be undertaken in cases of emergencies. This course will assist staff in identifying and planning for emergency situations in general practice.
Course outline:
- Strategies to address various types of emergencies
- How to recognise an emergency patient
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- What to do if a patient collapses in the waiting area
- Process of working with ambulance service in an emergency
- How to look after your doctor following an emergency. |
