Our current projects - Regaining trust after an adverse event: a series of well-timed conversations
The RACGP received a grant from the Australian Commission on Quality & Safety in Health Care to develop an education package to assist practice teams to respond and improve the capacity of the team to openly communicate with patients following an incident or adverse event.
The RACGP has developed an education package which includes a category 1 gplearning module and a poster for display in the practice (such as in the lunch room, or in the practice policy manual). The education module will also be available to download from the RACGP website.
For many of us, open and honest communication with patients is part of day-to-day practice. However, successfully managing an adverse situation goes beyond communication. It encompasses quality improvement activities that determine how adverse events occur and what systems can be developed to prevent them happening again.
We anticipate this module will complement your existing knowledge and sharpen your skills in communication as means of restoring relationships when things go wrong.
