Rural General Practice Registrar of the Year Award

Nominations
Nomination is open to all rural general practice registrars who are enrolled in the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice for the 2010–2011 financial year. The Rural Registrar of the Year can be nominated by general practice supervisors, medical educators, regional training providers, RACGP members and other GPs. One sponsor is required for each nomination.
Criteria:
- commitment to rural general practice and to learning
- services to rural patients, the practice and education
- services to the rural community
- currently enrolled as a regional training provider registrar in the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice.
The award includes:
- registration to attend the college's annual conference GP11, 6-8 October 2011, Hobart
- flights
- 2 nights accommodation
- registration to attend the NRF Rural and Registrars Dinner, 7 October 2011, Hobart
The registrar is expected to deliver a 10 minute presentation of their experience as a rural registrar at the GP11 National Rural Faculty (NRF) Rural and Registrars Dinner.
The National Rural Faculty Medical Undergraduate Student Bursary 2011
2011 nomination period now closed
Entries are invited for the National Rural Faculty (NRF) Medical Undergraduate Student Bursary Award, offered to a medical student who is a member of a rural health students club at an Australian university.
The bursary will fund:
- registration to attend the college's annual conference GP11, 6-8 October 2011, Hobart
- flights
- 2 nights accommodation
- registration to attend the NRF Rural and Registrars Dinner, 7 October 2011, Hobart.
The medical student is expected to deliver a 10 minute presentation of their paper at the NRF Rural and Registrars Dinner.
The NRF bursary was offered for the first time in 2004 in honour of the RACGP’s 2003 General Practitioner of the Year, Dr Ross Wilson, whose donation of $5000 underwrites the award.
In order to receive this bursary, entrants are required to complete the application form and write a short essay (maximum 1000 words) on the topic:
‘Create the perfect rural general practice’.
Selection and judging criteria
Requirements:
- current medical student member of a rural students club at an Australian university
- an essay (maximum 1000 words) on the topic ‘Create the perfect rural general practice’.
Judging criteria:
- quality of essay
- perceived understanding of rural general practice and evidence of innovative thinking.
