General Practice research grant opportunities

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners is committed to supporting new and emerging general practitioner researchers to conduct research into primary health care, and general practice. In 2010, 13 research grants are available to RACGP member general practitioners or general practice registrars through the RACGP Foundation. New and emerging general practitioner researchers are encouraged to apply. The RACGP Foundation supports GP researchers through facilitating networking with experienced researchers, allocation of QA&CPD points for research participation, and the opportunity to apply for one of the grants and scholarships awarded each year.
Grants, Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards
The Research Foundation administers the grants, scholarships, fellowships and awards listed below to members of the RACGP. 1st Round – now closed
- One RACGP Chris Silagy Research Scholarship – focusing on an aspect of evidence-based primary health care (up to $20,000)
- One Best general practice research article in the AFP Journal award– Selected from the papers published in the Research section of AFP during 2009 (Vol 38)(Engraved medal)
- Three Family Medical Care Education and Research Grant (FMCER) (up to $10,000 each)
- One RACGP/Vicki Kotsirilos Integrative Medicine Research Grant (up to $7,500)
- Two RACGP/Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) Indigenous Health Award (up to $4,500 each)
- One PWH Grieve Memorial Award (up to $2,500)
- One Rex Walpole Travelling Fellowship (up to $2,500)
- One RACGP/Osteoporosis Australia Bone Health Research Grant ($30,000)
- One RACGP Research Grant for a Pilot Study ($20,000)
2nd Round – closes on 5 September, 2010
- Up to two RACGP/Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine (CONROD) Research Fellowships (up to $30,000 each) – ( fellowships are available to support research into general practice patient populations who have experienced motor vehicle related trauma and encompass all types of motor-vehicle related trauma)
- One Primary Care Collaborative Cancer Clinical Trials Group (PC4) Research Grant (up to $10,000) – (established in 2010 to build capacity in cancer research in primary care, and to mentor early and mid-career researchers in general practice)
RACGP Conference, GP '10, Awards and Prizes
A number of awards are judged and awarded at the RACGP Annual Scientific Convention and are given to outstanding presenters of research papers or posters. For more information please check back here regularly or sign up to our mailing list below.

Applying for grant funding
RACGP research grants are available to general practitioners and general practitioner registrars who are financial members of the RACGP. Research grants are only paid to incorporated bodies that have an ABN and ACN, and not to individuals.
