General Practice research grant opportunities
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners is committed to supporting new and emerging general practitioner researchers to conduct research into primary health care and general practice. In 2008, up to 12 research grants are available to RACGP member general practitioners or general practice registrars through the RACGP Research Foundation. New and emerging general practitioner researchers are encouraged to apply. Support is in the form of networking with experienced researchers, allocation of CPD points for research participation and the opportunity to apply for one of the grants and scholarships awarded each year.
Grants, Scholarships, Fellowships and Awards
The Research Foundation administers the grants, scholarships, fellowships and awards listed below to members of the RACGP. Applications for 2008 grants open on 4 February 2008.
Applications will close on 14 April 2008.
- One Pfizer/RACGP/Australian Association of Academic General Practice Cardiovascular Research Grants in General Practice (CVRG) (up to $24k) (Applications open 4 February 2008, please note only one grant will be offered in 2008)
- One RACGP Chris Silagy Research Scholarship – focusing on an aspect of evidence-based primary health care ($20k) (Applications open 4 February 2008)
- Three RACGP/Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine (CONROD) Research Fellowships – focusing on road accident trauma and general practice (up to $20k each) (Applications open 4 February 2008)
- Two Family Medical Care Education and Research Grant (FMCER) (up to $10k each) (Applications open 4 February 2008)
- One Vicki Kotsirilos Integrative Medicine Grant (up to $5,000) (Please note this grant will not be offered in 2008)
- Three RACGP/Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) Indigenous Health Award (up to $2,500 each) (Applications open 4 February 2008)
- One PWH Grieve Memorial Award ($2,500) (Applications open 4 February 2008)
- One Rex Walpole Travelling Fellowship ($2,500) (Applications open 4 February 2008)
Annual Scientific Convention Awards and Prizes
Applications for 2008 ASC awards close 16 September 2008
A number of awards are judged and awarded at the RACGP Annual Scientific Convention and are given to outstanding presenters of research papers or posters. For more information please check back here regularly or sign up to our mailing list below.
- One Alan Chancellor Award (an engraved medal and $500)
- One National Asthma Council Award ($500)
- One NHMRC's NICS Evidence into Action Prize ($1000)
Applying for grant funding
RACGP research grants are available to general practitioners and general practitioner registrars who are financial members of the RACGP. Research grants are only paid to incorporated bodies that have an ABN and ACN and not to individuals.
Applications for each grant must be submitted using the appropriate application forms. These will be uploaded onto specific grant pages on the RACGP website in February 2008. Forms include:
