RACGP Research Grants Program
The RACGP promotes and delivers research services as an integral part of our work:
- Providing general practitioners with grants, scholarships and awards through the RACGP Research Foundation,
- Promoting and encouraging general practice research in the wider community, and
- Ethically reviewing research projects that involve patients and general practitioners in research specifically focused on general practice and community based medicine. For more information see the RACGP National Research and Evaluation Ethics Committee.
The RACGP Research Foundation has a proud history of research, providing over $200, 000 in funding to general practice research each year. Fourteen research projects have been funded in the 2007 round with general practitioners from all over Australia conducting research in cardiovascular disease, indigenous health, informatics, complementary medicine and family medical care.
New and emerging researchers are particularly encouraged to apply for funding through the RACGP Research Foundation. Application forms for RACGP grants and scholarships can be downloaded from the Research Related Funding Opportunities page and information from past grant recipients can be viewed through the progress and final reports page. Interested applicants for 2008 are advised to contact the RACGP Research Unit to be placed on the RACGP mailing list, to discuss research ideas or possible mentor links through the RACGP email. There are many benefits from research participation. You have access to the latest evidence, you have the opportunity to participate in teams, or be mentored, as well as refining your research writing skills. To promote high quality patient care, it is essential that there is a knowledge base of clinical and policy decisions based on sound information from both scientific findings and general practice research, which is disseminated and applied to practice.
