Architectural design

Rebirth of a clinic - a design workbook for architecture in general practice and primary care

This workbook is a guide from the initial concept to details-of-each-room, which has work sheet to capture the thoughts of the user at each step of the design. Any one can enter the process at any step to use part of the guide and exit at any time. The workbook format provides a place to write or sketch or store good ideas to share in the design process.

The workbook is shaped around a mnemonic D.E.S.I.G.N. - diverse, efficient, safe, innovative, ‘green’ and neighbourly - which captures aspects of general practice many GPs wanted captured in their architectural designs.

Developed as a result of a partnership between RMIT Architecture and the RACGP, this workbook is the result of involving practicing GPs and architects in the question – how best to renovate or design.

A couple of example pages are provided below, and the full workbook is available through the Publications Unit of the RACGP.
