Rebirth of a clinic - a design workbook for architecture in general practice and primary care

The RACGP Rebirth of a Clinic is a guide from the initial concept to details-of-each-room, to capture the thoughts of the user at each step of the design. Any one can enter the process at any step to use part of the guide and exit at any time.

The guide is shaped around a mnemonic D.E.S.I.G.N. - diverse, efficient, safe, innovative, ‘green’ and neighbourly - which captures aspects of general practice many GPs wanted captured in their architectural designs. Developed as a result of a partnership between RMIT Architecture and the RACGP, this guide is the result of involving practicing GPs and architects in the question – how best to renovate or design.

The RACGP Rebirth of a Clinic can be purchased. Members requiring further information on architecture in general practice and primary care please contact the RACGP Policy and Practice Support Unit on 03 8699 0596 or email advocacy@racgp.org.au.
