Supervision standards
The RACGP is recognised by the Australian Medical Council, the profession and the community as the body responsible for maintaining the standards of training for general practice in Australia. The RACGP Council is pleased to have endorsed two new documents to support GP supervisors and prevocational placements.
The Pre-vocational General Practice Placements Program (PGPPP)
Attracting Australian graduates to general practice has proven difficult in recent years. The reasons are diverse, but a key component has been that at the very time junior doctors are deciding on their career pathway, they have not had the opportunity to work in general practice. This need no longer be the case. With the advent of the PGPPP, junior doctors now have the opportunity to undertake intern or resident terms based in general practice.
