For patients
Information about health care is easy to find. However it is not always easy to know whether it is high quality, reliable information. This section of the RACGPs web site is specifically designed for patients and the general community who are interested in finding out more about a specific disease or condition, advice on self management or preventive care.
Here are links to information that is evidence based, prepared by organisations that are committed to quality information. The information is designed to be easily understood by people who are not health care professionals.
The RACGP recommends that you search for consumer health information using this search engine and then discuss your findings with your regular general practitioner.

Assessing consumer health information on the internet
If you want to search more broadly on health topics, you may want to use the Discern assessment tool to help you assess the reliability of the information on web sites. You can access the Discern Tool at www.discern.org.uk.
This section of the web site is under review and new links and services will be added from time to time.
