The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners has established a group of experienced and respected Fellows from each state faculty called the Corlis Travelling Fellows.

Dr John Kramer of Woolgoolga has been appointed a NSW&ACT Faculty Corlis Fellow.

Explanation of the Role

The Corlis Travelling Fellows provide advice to:

  • RACGP Vocational Training Accreditation Subcommittees and the RACGP Censors on accreditation of training posts outside usual general practice
  • Provide regional leadership and support for education events
  • Act as a local mentor
  • Liaise with universities, Regional Training Providers, Divisions/ Networks of General Practice and Rural Workforce Agencies and promote the college at regional meetings and events

Experience

Each Corlis Travelling Fellow is highly experienced, especially in the education and training leading to FRACGP and well regarded within the college. Dr John Kramer - Provost of the NSW&ACT Faculty, board member of the RACGP National Rural Faculty, Board Member of the MNCDGP and North Coast GP Training, senior lecturer with the UNSW Rural Clinical School, RACGP nominee on the NSW Rural Doctor’s Network board, and a GP in the Coffs Harbour region - honourably suits the requirements of this role. Dr Kramer has strong existing regional networks which allow him to act as an ambassador for the College in rural NSW and the ACT.

Plan for 2010

Dr Kramer has visited practices as part of the Accreditation of training practices around the Wagga Wagga region in March and the ACT region in June and he has met with Practice Managers, Supervisors, local rural clinical schools and Divisions in his role as Corlis Fellow whilst he was there. Further visits will be advised within the second half of the year. Dr Kramer is available to offer professional support and a collegial ear to any College member in need.

Reporting and Outcomes

Dr Kramer will liaise on an ongoing basis to his Faculty Admin support, Emma Ford, and the Chair of the NSW&ACT Faculty, Dr Liz Marles, where actions can be dealt with in a highly confidential manner. He will also report on non-confidential activity to the NSW&ACT Faculty Board on a quarterly basis, and deliver an annual report to the Faculty AGM. Each Corlis Fellow will be involved in an annual meeting to take place at the RACGP Annual Conference.
