NSW&ACT Faculty Update - Message from the chair, May 2012

July 2012 will see tranche three of Medicare Locals commence with a further seven Medicare Local organisations in NSW, bringing the total to 16 in NSW and one in the ACT. This is the largest number in any state. It will also see the transition of Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) to Australian Medicare Local Network (AMLN).

Member feature article: Empowering healthcare workers in Nepal

RACGP Member Dr Carolyn Sein recently returned from a three month World Health Organisation (WHO) Stop Transmission of Polio (STOP) field program in Nepal. Although the program specifically targets immunisation preventable diseases (IPD) to reduce child and maternal mortality (measles, mumps, rubella, Japanese encephalitis, polio, tetanus etc), its scope has broadened to strengthen health systems primarily through collaboration and capacity building.

Appeal for donations to support young women doctors from developing regions to attend WONCA Cancun conference

The World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), a major international stakeholder for the college, and its subsidiary the Working Group for Women and Family Medicine (WWPWFM), have approached the RACGP to support women from less advantaged countries within Asia Pacific, MESAR, Africa, and Ibero-America to attend the WONCA conference in Cancun in May 2010.
